Sphero makes an appearance in Manukau Class

It was Friday, it was supposed to be the annual beach trip day but the weather and water quality was against us and unfortunately the trip was cancelled. We were very disappointed about this so Mr Riceman planned a few fun activities for us back at school. One of these was a coding challenge that involved using our new Sphero robots. You can see the challenge below.

We had a great time working in groups scoring as many points as we could in short amount of time we had. There were lots of opportunities for creative thinking and problem solving as you will see in the videos below.  We can't wait for the next challenge.

Are you doing something similar in your class?  Would you like to find out more?  Please leave us a positive, thoughtful and helpful comment, we would love to hear your feedback!

  2. Hi my name is Sophie. I feel bad for you that you couldn't go on the annual beach trip, but it looks like you guys had a lot of fun playing with your Sphero Robots. I was just wondering if all the people in your class could start posting again because your classroom does quite cool things and I would like to see more of what you do.

    1. Hi Sophie,
We are hoping to get a few more posts on our individual blogs starting this week. Some of the kids are quite new to blogging so will take a little while to make sure they are Cybersmart when sharing.
      Thank you for your comment.

  9. Hi there, my name is Calai and I am a student in Waitemata at Waikowhai Primary School. I really like how you showed videos of you doing coding to make the robot move. It made me think of when, last year, four people went to a robot competition. Why did you have to use the iPad to make the robot move? Maybe next time you can explain this. If you would like to see my learning, my blog is http://wpscalair.blogspot.co.nz./

  10. I LOVE this idea! I use Dash Robots with another school that I work in and I think this challenge would be perfect for them too. Your photos and video clips so some great creative thinking and problem solving. I really enjoy coding and using robots too. How many spheros do you have at school? Do you have any other robots?

    1. Hi Tania,
Thanks for your comment. Waikowhai Primary are very lucky. We have 12 spheros and we also have 5 Edison robots that we have used in the past. Mr Riceman will work with us with some Makey makey's later in the year too. We would love to see the work you do with the other class posted as well.
